Taking Care of Your Crowns
Temporary Crowns
- Avoid chewing for at least one half-hour to allow the temporary cement to set.
- Avoid eating hard or sticky food, especially chewing gum.
- Try to chew on opposite side of your mouth.
- Brush normally but floss very carefully, remove floss from side.
- To reduce any discomfort or swelling, rinse with warm salt water 3x a day. It is normal for your gums to be sore for several days.
- Call us immediately if you temporary crown comes off. Make sure you save the temporary so it can be re-cemented back on.
- Call our office if your bite feels uneven or if you have sensitivity or discomfort that increases or continues beyond 3 or 4 days.
Permanent Crowns
- Avoid chewing ice and other hard objects.
- Brush and floss normally.
- To reduce any discomfort or swelling, rinse with warm salt water 3x a day. It is normal for your gums to be sore for several days.
- Call our office if your bite feels uneven, or if you have sensitivity or discomfort that increases or continues beyond 3 or 4 days.
